AI patterns
This is a note to record AI patterns, in the sense of “heuristics for things that work” (Agentydragon, My Anki patterns, LessWrong, November 26, 2019).
patterns
- Close the loop
- Expand the radius
- Once you have closed the loop, try to make it larger.
- Empower the agent
- Connect it to all your tools
- Collect information
- Multitask effectively
- Think in systems
- Distinguish AI as extension vs AI as assistant
- E.g. Nathan Labenz’s “second brain” system, involving both an instance of Claude Caude that has access to everything and does only what Nathan says, and an instance of Hermes in a Mac Mini that has restricted access and acts autonomously. The former is just Nathan using AI, whereas the latter is an assistant with their own name, email, GitHub account, etc.

- beware maintenance costs (James Shore, You Need AI That Reduces Maintenance Costs, James Shore's Blog, May 10, 2026)
