One difficulty shared by everyone who has been a Smith target is that RationalWiki articles usually have a prominence and permanence that none of his targets can match. Most articles and academic papers fade from public attention after a while, so any attempt to respond to Smith’s accusations will eventually be forgotten. RationalWiki articles, on the other hand, always remain a fixture in a Google search for a person’s name, at least if they are not deleted.
