Social implications of intelligent machines
Radio and Electronic Engineer, vol. 47, no. 8, 1977, pp. 393
Abstract
At the time of the paper, Boden was a professor pf Philosophy and Psychology at the University of Sussex, England. Here she provides a review of scholarship on the ethical and social issues raised by artificial intelligence. Microelectronics is likely to make intelligent machines much more widespread, which poses a threat to our concept of self. This piece appeared first in The Radio and Electronic Engineer, Vol. 47, No. 8/9 (Aug./Sept. 1977), and is based on chapter 15 in Boden’s book Artificial Intelligence and Natural Man (Hassocks, Sussex: Harvester Press, 1977).
