How much current animal suffering does longtermism let us ignore?

Abstract

Some thoughts on whether/why it makes sense to work on animal welfare, given longtermist arguments.  TLDR:. We should only deprioritize the current suffering of billions of farmed animals, if we would similarly deprioritize comparable treatment of millions of humans; and,We should double-check that our arguments aren’t distorted by status quo bias, especially power imbalances in our favor.
