In hiring, algorithms beat instinct
Harvard Business Review, 2014
Abstract
The article offers the perspective that algorithms are effective in synthesizing information in the hiring process and notes research which found that an equation outperforms human decisions about job applicants. The article notes that people making the hiring decisions were distracted by irrelevant information and applicants’ remarks and that hiring personnel used information inconsistently. It also recommends using an algorithmic system to narrow the field before making the final decision.
