This article argues that in order to consider the needs of future generations when making decisions, current generations must first conceptualize and factor in future people. The Research Institute for Future Design (RIFD) is the only research group dedicated to finding ways to encourage the inclusion of future generations in contemporary decision-making. RIFD has two major workstreams: To offer an institutional home for transdisciplinary research in this area and conduct surveys, experiments, and original research to encourage people to care about future generations.
