Happiness is a stochastic phenomenon

Abstract
A birth-record-based sample of several thousand middle-aged twins was measured using the Well-Being scale of the Multidimensional Personality Questionnaire to determine happiness, or subjective well-being. From 44% to 52% of the variance in well-being is associated with genetic variation.
