Capitalist exploitation, self-ownership, and equality

Abstract

G.A. Cohen has suggested that the traditional Marxist exploitation charge involves a commitment to self-ownership, which would put the ideal of equality in question, but a version of the explotation charge is presented that does not conflict with equality. Topics discussed include G.A. Cohen on exploitation and self-ownership, a preliminary response to Cohen, meta-ethical considerations, the underpayment account of the exploitation charge, the scope of the exploitation charge, and exploitation in relation to equality.
