HIV / AIDS
Our World in Data, 2024
Abstract
HIV/AIDS is one of the world’s most fatal infectious diseases, with nearly a million people dying from it each year. Globally, around 1.5% of deaths are caused by HIV/AIDS, but this share is much higher in some countries, particularly across Sub-Saharan Africa, where it can account for a quarter of all deaths. Progress has been made in the fight against HIV/AIDS, with global deaths from the disease halving within a decade as a result of antiretroviral therapy (ART). However, much remains to be done, as the number of people living with HIV continues to rise. – AI-generated abstract.
