A framework for strategically selecting a cause

Abstract

Introduction and summary We could have all the influence in the world, but if we focus on the wrong opportunity, we’re not going to have much impact. How can we make sure we work on good opportunities in our careers? At 80,000 Hours, we think it’s really useful for most people to work on picking a cause to support in their career. By cause, we mean a set of opportunities for making a difference such that the people working on them tend to share common knowledge, skills and core values.
