Abstract

Advanced AI systems could have massive impacts on humanity and potentially pose global catastrophic risks. There are opportunities in AI governance and coordination around these threats to shape how society responds to and prepares for the challenges posed by the technology. Given the high stakes, pursuing this career path could be many people’s highest-impact option. But they should be very careful not to accidentally exacerbate the threats rather than mitigate them.
